Pakistan Muslim League: Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb responded to the resignations of Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, declaring that the alleged conspiracy bench against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had reached its conclusion.
Addressing the media, Aurangzeb claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding Chairman Imran Khan had previously threatened the judges involved in the case.
She questioned the integrity of the resigning judges, stating, “Can you remove the stain on your feet by resigning? Can one be absolved from all accounts by resigning?”
Accusing Justice Ijazul Ahsan of being responsible for inflation in the country, the spokesperson argued that the resignations were an attempt to divert attention from the alleged misuse of power and the mockery made of the Supreme Court and its chair during the trial. Aurangzeb suggested that resigning judges could redeem themselves in the eyes of the public.
Referring to the time when titles like “Sicilian Mafia” and “Godfather” were used, she asserted that those who were demanding accountability at that time were now reluctant to give an account even for a single day. Aurangzeb contended that the intention behind the resignations appeared cowardly and questioned where the power, allegedly misused, had disappeared.
The PML-N spokesperson called upon Nawaz Sharif to resist the pressure and not succumb to resignation, claiming that it was a tactic to end the Panama case. She insisted that if the accusations were baseless, they should be proven instead of resorting to resignations.
Aurangzeb concluded the press conference by asserting that the political landscape was witnessing frustration and anger from all sides, mainly as Nawaz Sharif aimed for a comeback, potentially becoming the Prime Minister for the fourth time. She labeled resigning as “cowardly”. She criticized the founder of PTI for not addressing intra-party election concerns, suggesting that the party was accustomed to seeking results through the courts.
The spokesperson also referenced the discovery of diamonds during Justice Ijazul Hassan’s tenure as the monitoring judge in the Panama case and claimed that the reference against Mazahar Naqvi remained in the field, signaling an apparent reluctance to return it.
Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of intra-party elections for any party seeking an electoral symbol and insisted that those in influential positions must be held accountable for their decisions.
